Social Platforms Offer Summer Discounts On Premium Subscriptions
Meta, X, and Snapchat are simultaneously offering limited-time discounts on their premium subscription packages for the summer.
As Social Media Today reports, Meta introduced a significant discount for new Meta Verified users, with promotional pricing for the first month before returning to standard rates. X Premium presented a 30% reduction on annual subscriptions for both its Premium and Premium Plus tiers. Snapchat followed suit with a 50% discount on the first two months of Snapchat+ subscriptions.
Subscription Performance Metrics
The subscription services represent growing but comparatively modest revenue sources for each platform. Meta has added approximately $358 million to its “Other” revenue category since launching Meta Verified in Q2 2023. Based on the average subscription price of $13, this suggests around 9 million Meta Verified subscriptions to date.
Snapchat+ leads in subscriber count with 15 million users, generating an additional $150 million quarterly. This makes it the most successful subscription offering among the three platforms by adoption rate.
X Premium trails with an estimated 1.5 million paying users, representing less than 0.5% of X’s user base. This falls significantly short of owner Elon Musk’s initial goal of hundreds of millions of subscribers.
Despite these subscription initiatives, advertising continues to dominate platform revenues. Meta’s quarterly advertising income reaches $31.5 billion, dwarfing its subscription revenue. Similarly, Snapchat’s $150 million in subscription revenue represents a fraction of its $1.36 billion total quarterly income.
