MrBeast Warns ‘Scary Times’ Ahead For Creator Economy Amid AI Video Advancements

MrBeast, YouTube’s most-subscribed creator, has expressed concerns about artificial intelligence potentially threatening the livelihoods of content creators as new AI video generation tools advance rapidly.

“When AI videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to YouTube and how it will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living,” MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, posted on X. “Scary times.”

According to a Business Insider report, the creator’s comments follow major AI video announcements from technology companies. OpenAI recently launched Sora 2, enabling users to insert themselves into videos using text prompts. YouTube introduced tools allowing podcasters to generate short videos from transcripts.

Meta entered the space with “Vibes,” a dedicated feed for AI-generated videos within its Meta AI app. The feature allows users to generate videos from scratch, modify existing content, or remix videos with new visuals and music layers. Content created in Vibes can be shared across Instagram and Facebook.

According to Meta, the company also partnered in a support/integration role with established AI image generators Midjourney and Black Forest Labs for Vibes’ initial release while continuing to develop its own models.

Widespread AI Adoption Among Creators

Recent research from Wondercraft reveals that more than 80% of content creators now incorporate AI in some aspect of their creative process, with nearly 40% using it throughout their entire workflow. Video has emerged as the dominant medium, with 52.5% of creators focusing on it as their primary format.

Among video-first creators, approximately one in four report using AI across their entire production process, from scriptwriting to post-processing.

Marketing professionals exhibit particularly high engagement, with 85% currently using AI tools and more than 40% incorporating them into their workflow.

Trust Remains Critical for Human Creators

Despite technological advancements, market behavior continues to prioritize human connection. A new Collabstr report found brand openness to AI influencers decreased by approximately 30% between late 2024 and early 2025.

“A lot of these accounts have the followings – there are accounts that have millions of followers and they’re fully AI – but they don’t have the loyalty that a real person has,” said Kyle Dulay, co-founder of Collabstr. “I think brands are catching on to that. And so the initial novelty is worn off.”

Meanwhile, user-generated content (UGC) shows significant growth, with the number of creators offering UGC services nearly doubling year-over-year, according to Collabstr.

For MrBeast, who previously faced a backlash after releasing an AI tool for thumbnail generation before quickly withdrawing it, the advancement of AI video technology represents a potential existential challenge to the creator economy he helped build.
