Ryan Kalil, Blake Griffin Lead NFL and NBA Veterans’ Mexican Football Team Into YouTube Docuseries

An ownership group of NFL and NBA veterans is bringing its purchase of a Mexican professional football team to YouTube.

We Are Osos,” an eight-episode docuseries following former NFL center Ryan Kalil, former NBA All-Star Blake Griffin and a group of ex-NFL players through their first season owning the Monterrey Osos of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, premiered exclusively on YouTube on August 5 on the @OsosLFA channel.

The series is produced by Mortal Media, the production company Kalil and Griffin co-founded, and Supper Club, the studio behind “Chef’s Table” and FX’s “The Bear.” Episodes one and two dropped together at launch, with new installments arriving every other Wednesday.

Kalil’s ownership group includes Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Luke Kuechly, Sam Darnold, Greg Olsen and Ron Rivera, several of whom played alongside Kalil on the Carolina Panthers. Kalil, a 13-year NFL veteran and Panthers team captain who retired after the 2019 season, said the series centers the LFA’s players and community rather than the ownership purchase itself.

“It’s about the players, coaches, and fans in Monterrey who give everything to this game,” he said. “My hope is that people watch it and fall in love with them the way we did.” Griffin, McCaffrey and Kittle echoed that framing in statements released alongside the premiere, each pointing to the personal stakes of LFA players rather than the business mechanics of the acquisition.

According to The Athletic, the LFA is a seven-team league, and the Osos, formerly known as the Fundidores before the ownership change, saw game attendance grow from around 3,000 fans to 8,500 after Kalil’s group took over. Kalil, whose paternal grandparents were from Mexico, has described the country’s underexposure to the league as “a marketing problem” rather than a demand problem, citing Mexico’s roughly 40 million NFL fans. A second season, covering the Osos’ 2026 campaign, has already been filmed.

The series adds to a growing library of athlete-led, YouTube-exclusive sports documentary content. The NFL’s own video output drew more than 20 billion views on YouTube in 2025, up 250% since 2020, with the league operating 11 official channels and crediting much of that growth to “platform-native” formats built around player personalities rather than game footage alone.

Mortal Media has prior credits including the “White Men Can’t Jump” reboot and Apple TV+’s “Hello Tomorrow!”
