Creator Economy Jobs Contract 25% Y-o-Y As Support Roles Decline

The creator economy job market is contracting while experiencing significant shifts in hiring patterns, according to a new report from Creator Economy Jobs

The “Q2 2025 Hiring Trends Report,” which analyzed 1,294 open roles across more than 750 creator economy companies, reveals overall job listings has declined 9.8% quarter-over-quarter and 25.9% year-over-year.

Support roles have experienced the steepest decline, with administrative positions down 30.3%, customer support dropping 26.4%, and operations falling 23.0% year-over-year. The report suggests this trend may be linked to artificial intelligence disruption in these fields.

“Creator economy companies are taking advantage of major LLMs like ChatGPT, Gemini, LLaMA, and Perplexity as well as AI functionality being built into existing software products they use like CRMs, customer service tools, and more,” James Creech, founder and CEO of Creator Economy Jobs.

Part-Time and Fractional Roles Surge

Despite the overall contraction, part-time job listings increased 3.6% quarter-over-quarter and 56.7% year-over-year, indicating more creator economy companies are looking to scale through fractional roles.

James attributes this shift to several factors: “There are a few trends contributing to the rise of part-time and fractional work: macroeconomic uncertainty, the future of work as we move toward a majority freelance economy in 2027, and generational shifts as Gen Z workers value flexibility in their work schedules.”

Design, Creative, and Legal Roles on the Rise

While engineering remains the most in-demand function at 21.6% of open roles, it has dropped for two consecutive quarters (-27.3% QoQ). Meanwhile, demand for design (+58.0% QoQ), creative (+54.5% QoQ), and legal (+38.9% QoQ) positions is increasing.

“Design and creative roles are growing in popularity because creator economy businesses differentiate and attract customers via their brand identity and content marketing,” explains James.

Geographic Shifts in Hiring

New York City maintained its position as the top hiring market for the second consecutive quarter, surpassing traditional technology hubs Los Angeles and San Francisco. Job openings in North America increased 22.9% quarter-over-quarter, while European and Asian markets contracted sharply (-54.1% and -25.8% respectively).

U.S. job openings accounted for nearly half (46.8%) of available roles this quarter. Outside the U.S., the largest quarterly gains were in France (+114.3%), Germany (+78.1%), and Denmark (+50.0%).

Many international cities saw significant declines in job listings, including Singapore (-82.6%), Tel Aviv (-80.0%), and Amsterdam (-68.0%).

Mid-Level Talent in Highest Demand

The report shows that employers are increasingly seeking candidates for mid-level (45.6% of listings) and experienced (18.4%) roles, while entry-level positions, as well as executive and director job listings, declined quarter-over-quarter.

Full-Time Positions Still Dominate

Despite the growth in part-time roles, full-time positions still account for 96.2% of all job listings, with part-time jobs representing just 3.6% and contractor roles at 0.2%. The report notes that Creator Economy Jobs primarily caters to full-time hiring, which may influence these figures.

Companies Still Actively Hiring

Several creator economy companies maintain robust hiring efforts despite the overall market contraction. As of June 2025, the companies with the most open roles include Electrify Video Partners (63), Later (55), Udemy (50), Coda Payments (47), and ElevenLabs (41).

Layoffs Continue

The report also documents layoffs at several creator economy companies during Q2 2025, including Meta (100 employees, 0.1% of workforce), Canva (10 employees, 0.2% of workforce), and unspecified numbers at Spotter and TikTok.

The Creator Economy Jobs report serves as a comprehensive indicator of hiring trends within the creator economy, offering insights for companies, professionals, and industry observers as the sector continues to evolve amid technological changes and economic pressures.
