WhatsApp Adds Member Tags, Text Stickers To Group Chats

WhatsApp has released three features for group chats focused on personalization and event management.

According to a blog post, the platform introduced member tags, allowing users to assign themselves different identifiers across separate group chats. Users can designate themselves as “Anna’s Dad” in one conversation and “Goalkeeper” in another, providing context for their role in each group.

WhatsApp added text stickers that let users convert typed words into sticker format through Sticker Search. The feature allows you to add created stickers directly to sticker packs without requiring an initial share in a chat.

The platform now supports custom early reminders for events created within group chats. Event organizers can set advance notifications for invitees to ensure timely attendance for both in-person gatherings and virtual calls.

WhatsApp positioned the updates as additions to existing group chat capabilities, including file sharing up to 2GB, HD media support, screen sharing, and voice calls.

The features launched on January 7 as Meta continues expanding WhatsApp’s functionality beyond messaging. The company previously announced plans to centralize marketing campaign management across WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, along with AI-powered business tools for product recommendations and customer service integration.
