Spotify Adds Audiobook Charts to Help Listeners, Publishers Track Trending Titles
Spotify has launched Audiobook Charts for the U.S. and UK, giving listeners and industry professionals a new tool to track trending titles on the platform.
Similar to Spotify’s existing Music and Podcast Charts, the Audiobook Charts update weekly and rank titles both overall and by genre. Rankings are based on listening behavior and engagement data. Free and Premium users can access the charts within the Audiobooks hub by tapping Search, selecting the “Audiobooks” tile, and scrolling to the “Dive deeper” shelf.
Spotify said in a news release that the charts are designed to serve both listeners and the publishing industry. For readers, the rankings provide a discovery tool based on current listening trends. For authors and publishers, the charts create additional visibility and opportunities for audience reach.
“As we’ve proven with Music and Podcasts Charts, when content is easier to access, discover, and enjoy, the demand grows,” said Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing. “We are delighted to now bring that to audiobooks, to help provide even more ways for users, publishers, and authors to discover what’s trending on Spotify, and make books more connected with culture in real time.”
The chart launch follows a series of audiobook-focused product updates since Spotify added official support for the format in 2022, according to TechCrunch. Recent additions include Page Match, which lets users scan a page from a physical book to instantly jump to that point in the audiobook, and Audiobook Recaps, short audio summaries that catch listeners up on previously heard content.
Spotify is also expanding beyond digital audiobooks. In February, the company announced a partnership with Bookshop.org that will allow U.S. and UK users to purchase physical books directly through the Spotify app.
