Vimeo Cuts Jobs Globally After Bending Spoons Acquisition
Vimeo has laid off staff globally following its $1.38 billion acquisition by Milan-based tech conglomerate Bending Spoons.
A Bending Spoons spokesperson confirmed the job cuts to Business Insider, but declined to specify the scale of the layoffs. Social media posts from affected employees suggest the reductions were widespread and included Vimeo’s entire video team, according to TechCrunch.
The latest cuts mark Vimeo’s second workforce reduction in less than a year. In September 2025, the company laid off roughly 10% of its full-time staff in what it described in an SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) filing as an effort to improve focus and efficiency. One employee affected by the most recent round told Business Insider, “I wish I could say it was a surprise.”
The all-cash acquisition by Bending Spoons closed in the latter half of 2025, following approval from Vimeo stockholders. The layoffs appear to have followed in the months after the deal’s completion, as the Milan-based firm began integrating the company into its broader portfolio.
According to Business Insider, the elimination of Vimeo’s video team is particularly notable given that the platform is built on professional video creation and hosting. In recent years, Vimeo has expanded beyond basic hosting into software products such as webinars, virtual events, and creator tools, positioning itself as an alternative to YouTube rather than a mass-market social platform.
Bending Spoons’ Acquisition Strategy
Valued at approximately $11 billion as of October 2025, Bending Spoons operates a growing collection of consumer and productivity software businesses, including Meetup, WeTransfer, Evernote, and Eventbrite. Across its portfolio, the company reports more than 300 million monthly active users and 10 million paying customers, according to TechCrunch.
The firm has also established a consistent pattern of deep workforce reductions following acquisitions. After acquiring WeTransfer, Bending Spoons laid off roughly 75% of the company’s staff, Business Insider reported.
Similar cuts followed its 2023 purchase of Evernote, and in December 2023, the company eliminated the entire team at video app Filmic.
Additional Acquisitions in Progress
Bending Spoons’ dealmaking has continued at pace. In October 2025, the company announced plans to acquire AOL from Yahoo for $1.5 billion, financing the transaction as part of a broader $4 billion debt raise intended to support acquisitions and future M&A activity.
In December 2025, Bending Spoons also agreed to acquire Eventbrite in a $500 million deal, though that transaction is currently facing a Delaware lawsuit from stockholders challenging voting rights related to the sale.
Founded in 2004, Vimeo was previously owned by IAC, which spun it off as a public company in May 2021.
