AI Startup OpusClip Secures $20M From SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Launches AI Video Search Tool
OpusClip, a generative AI video editing startup, has secured $20 million in funding led by SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2, valuing the company at $215 million.
The San Francisco-based company also announced the launch of OpusSearch, a new tool designed to help creators monetize their video catalogs.
Growth Attracts Major Investment
Founded in 2022, OpusClip has developed a multi-modal AI tool for creating and publishing short videos on social media platforms.
Users enter text prompts to extract clips from longer videos, with the AI analyzing social media trends to identify compelling content. The platform has attracted over 10 million users who have created more than 172 million video clips in the past year, generating 57 billion views collectively.
“Our product is completely AI-first, and SoftBank is fascinated by a new generation of video editing,” Young Zhao, OpusClip’s co-founder and CEO, tells Business Insider. Zhao, who previously worked as a talent agent, reveals he developed the platform to “democratize this tedious process through AI, so all the creators in the world would be able to access all the technologies.”
The funding round, which brings OpusClip’s total funding to $50 million, closed by December 2024. Existing investors include DCM Ventures, AIGrant, and Millennium New Horizons.
OpusSearch and Professional Content Monetization

The tool functions as a “custom AI brain,” enabling users to search their entire video catalog by topic, speaker, or object.
After working with millions of creators, OpusClip identified three key market challenges: underutilized content representing lost revenue potential, increasing algorithm demands for audience-content fit, and the need to leverage trending topics quickly.
“OpusClip’s AI tool is changing everything. OpusClip isn’t just for media companies—it’s for any business owner who needs to maintain a social presence without sacrificing hours for video editing,” Tom Bilyeu, CEO of Impact Theory, said in the announcement.
The platform offers subscription-based pricing starting at $19 monthly for a starter plan and $29 for a pro plan, with options to purchase additional AI processing credits.
The company has also begun developing a business-to-business payment model for enterprise customers, which currently include Univision, Billboard, iHeartMedia, Visa, and LinkedIn.
OpusSearch enables content creators to build topic-specific channels for different audience segments, respond to trends within minutes, and transform video archives into new revenue streams. Early adopters include Jubilee, Nate Bargatze, and Zack Justice, with creators typically achieving positive ROI within two months.
“Our team at Jubilee Media is stoked to be among the first to explore how OpusClip and OpusSearch can streamline our short-form post-production process for the hundreds of videos we produce each year,” Zack Warren, Creative Director at Jubilee Media, stated in the announcement.
The company plans to use the new funding to expand its headcount and increase investment in AI research for video applications.
AI adoption is accelerating across the creator economy, with 91% of brands now incorporating artificial intelligence into their creator marketing strategies, according to research from CreatorIQ.
