Meta’s Edits Rolls Out AI Assistant to All U.S. Edits Users

Meta’s Edits Rolls Out AI Assistant to All U.S. Edits Users

Meta has begun rolling out the “Edits assistant,” an AI tool built into its Instagram-linked video editing app, to all U.S.-based Edits users, according to Brett Westervelt, who leads the Edits app. The tool moves out of the limited testing Meta previewed at an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles in June and into general release.

The assistant is positioned as a creative partner grounded in a creator’s own account rather than a generic content-advice bot. “There’s no shortage of AI tools that can write a generic hook or spit out a content calendar. But they don’t know your Instagram,” Westervelt said. “The Edits assistant is a creative partner that knows you and your audience.”

The tool draws on a creator’s Instagram metrics, including follows, views, video retention, likes and shares, alongside comments and platform-wide trends, to identify patterns in performance that Meta says are difficult to spot from raw data alone. Creators can ask questions like what resonated with their audience in a given month, why one reel held attention and another did not, or what to make next.

Beyond analysis, the assistant generates video concepts, hooks, captions, and scripts based on a creator’s own track record, and it can surface trending audio recommendations matched to a creator’s niche, saveable directly from the chat interface. Meta said the tool is designed to handle analysis rather than replace creative decisions. “Edits assistant does the digging for you. The creative calls are still yours,” Westervelt wrote.

Meta said the release reflects months of testing with a council of creators. Beauty creator and makeup artist @jaleesajaikaran said the assistant recommended mixing a 7-second reel among her usual one-minute videos, a length variation she said she had not considered. “Yes, we could read our insights, but giving me ideas based on those insights is mind-blowing,” she said. Creator @turnipvegan said the tool helped him discover that non-food content documenting a desert greenhouse build outperformed his cooking videos, calling it “a cheat code for creators.”

The Edits assistant is free to use with a daily prompt limit. Meta said power users will soon be able to unlock additional usage through a Meta One subscription.

The assistant is one of two AI tools Meta has introduced for creators in recent months. The company launched a comparable Creator Assistant for Facebook in early June, offering conversational performance analysis and content ideation drawn from a creator’s Facebook presence. Meta has also previewed a desktop version of Edits and a Beta tab for experimental features, alongside expanded audience insights including demographic breakdowns and peak engagement times.

Edits launched in early 2025 as a standalone competitor to ByteDance’s CapCut, arriving during a period of regulatory uncertainty over TikTok’s U.S. operations.
