Daylight Media Acquires Podcast Review in Bid to Consolidate Podcast Discovery, Editorial

Daylight Media has announced the acquisition of Podcast Review, a podcast criticism and discovery publication, from founder Jack Conway. The deal marks a new phase for the site, which draws more than half a million annual visitors and reaches thousands of readers through a weekly newsletter, according to the announcement.

The site holds top-three search rankings for terms including “Best History Podcasts,” “Best Philosophy Podcasts,” and “Best Science Podcasts.”

The acquisition comes as podcast listenership continues to grow. According to Daylight, 47% of Americans now listen to podcasts weekly, with discovery remaining a primary challenge for both audiences and creators.

Alice Florence Orr, who has served as Managing Editor since the site’s early days, will lead the publication going forward. “Everyone can be a podcast listener; they just haven’t discovered their show yet,” Orr said. “Working with Daylight means we can be more ambitious. Looking ahead, we will commission more writers, publish even more reviews, and write thoughtful, character-driven profiles.”

Expanding Commercial Opportunities

Under Daylight, Podcast Review will expand its commercial offerings to include editorial partnerships, site-wide advertising, and newsletter sponsorships. The publication is also inviting podcast creators to pitch shows for reviews and profiles.

Steve Wilson, Chief Strategy Officer at Daylight, cited fragmentation across audio, video, and platform algorithms as a central problem the acquisition aims to address. “Podcast Review has spent years answering that question with the editorial seriousness this medium deserves,” Wilson said.

Conway, who founded Podcast Review and built it into a recognized editorial voice, expressed confidence in the transition. “In Daylight, the site has found a team that shares that same vision,” he said.

Daylight Media is a venture from the team at QCODE that provides creators with distribution, IP expansion, audience development, marketing, and technology services. Its current portfolio includes “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart,” “Philosophize This,” and “Love and Radio,” among others.
