Sen. Ed Markey’s Reelection Campaign Enlists Influencers in Massachusetts Senate Primary
U.S. Senator Ed Markey’s reelection campaign is working with social media influencers, some paid and some posting independently, as part of his primary campaign against Congressman Seth Moulton, according to a report from State House News Service.
Several Instagram posts reviewed by the outlet are labeled “In partnership with @edmarkey.” In one, 25-year-old influencer Maria Comstock delivers a satirical endorsement of Moulton that ends with an implicit case for Markey, a video that has surpassed 200,000 views. Influencer Brett Carter (@fossildaddy) urges followers to vote for Markey and cites his record on LGBTQ equality and immigration policy. Boston-based travel creator @kevykevvworldwide posted a partnership video on Aug. 13 focused on Markey’s workplace safety legislation.
Other creators posted in Markey’s favor without disclosing a partnership. Sarah Whitman (@slarrry) told viewers on Aug. 19 that Markey has not accepted corporate or foreign lobbying money. Katie McManus (@therealkatiemcmanus) called him “one of the most progressive senators in Congress” in an Aug. 3 post. A July 8 video from influencer Victoria Hammett, which drew nearly 95,000 views, criticized Moulton directly, calling him “a snake in the grass” and referencing his past ties to AIPAC.
Campaign finance records cited by State House News Service show Markey’s campaign paid more than $546,000 to Aisle 518 Strategies, a progressive-focused digital and political consulting firm, for communication services between January 2025 and June 2026. The campaign also paid $6,000 to Four Lions Media, an agency whose Instagram account has 36 followers; Comstock is one of them.
Asked about the campaign’s social media video ad spending, Markey campaign spokesperson Jonathan Ng said the campaign is “proud to work with content creators who share Senator Markey’s progressive values” and that “every paid partnership is clearly identified so voters know when they are seeing sponsored campaign content.” Moulton’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on whether it has paid or partnered with influencers of its own.
The influencer push echoes tactics from Markey’s 2020 primary against Joseph Kennedy III, when a network of young, online supporters became known as the “Markeyverse.”
