YouTuber Markiplier Becomes GoPro’s Largest Shareholder With 8.5% Stake
Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach has built a position representing 8.5% of GoPro’s Class A common stock, making him the camera company’s single largest shareholder, per Bloomberg. Fischbach told Bloomberg he believes GoPro “seems undervalued” and described the investment as “part of a larger mission to make filmmaking more accessible.”
The investment follows the release of Fischbach’s first feature film, “Iron Lung,” earlier this year. Fischbach recently posted a YouTube video praising GoPro’s new Mission 1 ILS camera, comparing it to the pricier Red Komodo-X and saying he plans to use it in future films. The video includes an affiliate code for the camera, but does not mention his ownership stake in GoPro in either the caption or the video itself.
Fellow YouTuber Marques Brownlee addressed the investment in a post on Threads, sharing a still from Fischbach’s video with the comment: “This is not a line I see crossed very often, but to each their own.”
