VTuber Agency VShojo Shuts Down After Charity Funds Misused

VTuber agency VShojo ceased operations following revelations that charity funds were diverted for operational expenses. CEO Justin “Gunrun” Ignacio confirmed the company’s closure amid mass talent exodus and financial irregularities.

The crisis centers on $515,000 raised during VTuber Ironmouse‘s September 2024 subathon intended for the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF). According to public statements, these funds were incorporated into general operating cash rather than segregated for the designated charity. The IDF confirms no receipt of the donation.

The shutdown follows Ironmouse’s July 21 exit announcement, where she alleged unpaid income and missing charity funds. Within 48 hours, 12 of 13 VShojo talents, including Kson and Projekt Melody, announced their departures citing months of unpaid earnings from sponsorships and merchandise revenue.

VShojo’s “talent-first” economic model, which offered generous revenue splits and IP retention for performers, proved unsustainable. The company’s $11 million seed funding from 2022 depleted as fundraising attempts for additional capital stalled in early 2025.

Internal documents reveal the absence of segregated accounts for charity proceeds and operating funds. The company also lacked an independent board despite venture backing, with decisions concentrated among founding executives.

Industry Implications

Most former VShojo talent retain their intellectual property rights as the agency’s contracts granted character ownership. The incident emphasizes the need for escrow accounts for charity funds, audited financials, and independent boards in the VTuber sector.

Artists, riggers, and other vendors report thousands in overdue invoices, suggesting systemic accounts payable failures. The company’s financial obligations at shutdown include an estimated $1.2 million in talent back-pay, the $515,000 charity obligation, and approximately $200,000 in vendor invoices.
