TikTok Introduces Shared Collections, Shared Feed Features

TikTok has introduced two new collaborative features designed to enable users to discover and organize content together, according to a company announcement.

Shared Collections Enable Collaborative Saving

The platform introduced “Shared Collections,” which allows users to save and organize TikTok videos in collaborative collections accessible to both participants. Users can create collections for various purposes, including content from creators, home design projects, or skills they are learning together.

To create a Shared Collection, both participants must follow one another. When a user saves a video or accesses their collections, they can choose to start a collection with another person. Upon accepting the invite, participants can rename the collection and begin saving content together.

Collections can remain private or be made available to the broader TikTok community. The feature is available globally to accounts over age 16.

Shared Feed Delivers Daily Curated Content

TikTok also announced “Shared Feed,” which generates a daily selection of 15 videos in direct messages based on the interests of two connected users. The feature surfaces content tailored to both participants’ preferences, drawing from categories including sports, holiday activities, and fashion creators.

“Shared Feed can help two people stay connected by surfacing new content tailored to both of their tastes, from sports to holiday winter activities and even their favorite fashion creators,” TikTok stated in the announcement.

Each Shared Feed generates content based on participants’ TikTok activity, including videos they like, watch, and comment on. After viewing all videos, users can access metrics showing which videos both participants liked through a Shared Like history feature. Participants can leave the Shared Feed at any time. The feature will roll out globally in the coming months.

Feature Comparison and Holiday Addition

Social Media Today noted similarities between TikTok’s Shared Feed and Instagram’s “Blend” feature, which Instagram launched in April with comparable functionality for collaborative content discovery.

TikTok also announced greeting cards for direct messages, allowing users to select, customize, and send digital cards that open with animated displays. The greeting card feature will launch globally later this month.

All three features are available in TikTok’s Direct Messages, which are not accessible to accounts under 16. Parents can manage teen direct messaging settings through the platform’s Family Pairing controls.
