Snap Closes Out AI Ads Rollout With MCP Server Opening Platform to Third-Party Agents

Snap released the final episode of its “Snapchat’s AI in Ads Crash Course” video series on July 25, closing a five-week rollout that culminated in the company opening its advertising platform to third-party AI agents through a Model Context Protocol server. As reported by PPC Land, the move puts Snapchat alongside Google, Amazon, Pinterest and Meta, each of which has exposed its ads platform to the same protocol over the past nine months.

Snap first detailed the broader AI suite on June 18. The July 25 episode restated the mechanics of the MCP server in plainer terms, crediting Shobha Diwakar, VP of Ads Product and Engineering, with walking through how the protocol connects to Snap’s existing stack. A graphic in the episode places three components side by side: an AI assistant, the Snapchat MCP server, and the Snapchat Marketing API. The API remains the execution layer; the MCP server becomes the interface that external models query; and Snap’s own Smart Assistant is the first-party consumer of that interface.

Model Context Protocol originated at Anthropic in November 2024 before being donated to the Linux Foundation. Its adoption across advertising platforms has moved quickly: Google shipped an open-source MCP server for its Ads API on October 7, 2025; Amazon Ads moved to open beta on February 2, 2026; Pinterest announced its own server in mid-June 2026, days ahead of Snap; and Meta opened its ads MCP server to any developer holding a Meta app on July 16, 2026. Snap’s entry means the four largest self-serve social advertising platforms in the Western market now expose campaign data and controls through the same protocol.

As PPC Land notes, Snap’s server does not incorporate Ad Context Protocol, the MCP-layered specification that six companies, including PubMatic and Yahoo, launched in October 2025 to govern agent-to-agent transactions across platforms. Snap’s announcement makes no reference to it.

The completed rollout arrives as Snap works to reverse an advertising slowdown. Q4 2025 results showed daily active users falling to 474 million while ad revenue grew just 5% to $1.48 billion. Q1 2026 results improved, with revenue up 12% to $1.53 billion and median incremental return on ad spend up 104% by third-party measurement. In April 2026, Snap announced a restructuring expected to cut its annualized cost structure by more than $500 million in the second half of the year.

Ajit Mohan, Snap’s Chief Business Officer, framed the rollout’s intent in the original June announcement: “There’s a lot of conversation about AI transforming advertising, but the real opportunity is making advertising more useful. The most powerful experiences don’t change human behavior – they enhance it.”
