American Influencer Council Launches Health Coverage Guide for Creators With Solo Health
The American Influencer Council (AIC), a nonprofit trade association representing career creators, has released a free guide to health coverage for self-employed creators, developed in partnership with Solo Health, a health plan provider for the self-employed. AIC said the release makes it the first creator trade association to pair plain-language health coverage guidance with a direct path to enrollment in one destination.
The guide, titled “Self-Employed Creator’s Guide to Health Coverage,” covers the ACA health insurance marketplace, Medicaid eligibility, COBRA, private insurance, health share plans and short-term coverage, along with IRS deductions available to the self-employed. AIC said it built the guide after reviewing how creators talk about health coverage in search results and across hundreds of videos on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and found three moments came up repeatedly: turning 26 and aging off a parent’s plan, losing coverage through a spouse, and leaving a corporate job without a plan for replacing benefits.
“Career creators are small business owners, and they are learning to price their work like one,” said Qianna Smith Bruneteau, founder and executive director of AIC. “That means building their taxes and their health coverage costs into their rates, not just their time. We made this guide so no creator has to guess at that math, or stay in a job they have outgrown because they are afraid they cannot afford to leave.”
The guide arrives as the ACA marketplace undergoes a pullback among major insurers. Aetna exited at the end of 2025, Cigna has said it will exit at the end of 2026, and Centene, the largest marketplace carrier in the country, saw its ACA membership fall from 5.6 million to 3.6 million in the first quarter of 2026, according to figures cited in the guide. Enhanced premium subsidies that had lowered marketplace costs for many enrollees also expired at the end of 2025.
Sam DeMase, AIC’s board chairwoman and founder of Power Mood, contributed a foreword to the guide along with three working creators, Jalyn Baiden, N’Dea Irvin-Choy and Grace Lemire, who shared their own experiences navigating coverage. “I went full-time as a creator without knowing how I would handle health coverage, and figuring it out alone was one of the hardest parts of the leap,” DeMase said. “Once I had a plan, the fear lifted.”
Solo Health, a self-funded plan administered by Vault Admin Services and backed by the Vault Health Captive, is named in the guide as AIC’s recommended enrollment option. The plan requires applicants to pass a health questionnaire, offers three deductible tiers and provides access to the MultiPlan PHCS network in all 50 states. “We hear the same thing from creators again and again: they want real health coverage without paying an arm and a leg for it,” said Kylie Morrissey, head of marketing at Solo Health. “This guide was built to answer that.”
AIC discloses in the guide that it is an affiliate partner of Solo Health and may receive a commission through its referral link, and that the association does business with companies covered in its educational publications, a relationship it states readers should weigh as one factor among others. The guide also discloses it was developed with the assistance of Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, used to compile information from sources including the IRS, HealthCare.gov, Medicaid.gov and HealthInsurance.org, with content reviewed and edited by AIC staff.
AIC, incorporated in 2020, describes itself as the trade association for an industry of more than 39 million U.S.-based creators.
