The Telly Awards has opened entries for its 48th annual competition, adding a dedicated “Microseries” track and naming ReelShort, the vertical streaming platform from Crazy Maple Studio, as a season partner. The early entry deadline is December 11. The organization will announce the final deadline shortly after.
The “Microseries” track includes dozens of award opportunities, spanning Telenovela, Romantasy, Documentary, and Branded Entertainment, as well as craft categories such as Vertical Cinematography. The “TV Series” track adds Virtual Production and Sports Documentary. The Telly Awards also expanded its “Generative AI,” “Vertical Video,” and “Creator & Host” categories. This season’s theme is “Made to Move.”
“We’re including Microseries and Generative AI this season because formats evolve – but what makes a great story doesn’t,” Amanda Needham, Managing Director of The Telly Awards, said in a press release.
Season 47 drew nearly 14,000 entries from 55 countries, the most in the program’s history. In May, the organization reported that the total represented a 6% increase over the previous year. Creator-led winners included Dude Perfect, Michelle Khare’s production company, and Dan Rodo Productions. “Generative AI” debuted as a category that season, and “Vertical Video Series” was already in the lineup, with Dan Rodo Productions and Mad Realities among its Gold winners.
Judges and Partners
The Judging Council added five members: Christina Richardson, Creator of “Besties” at FOX Creator Studios; Kerry Easter, Head of Marketing at Fremantle UK; Nathan Isherwood, Head of Whalar Studios at Whalar Group; Joel Meyer, EVP at Lionsgate Television; and Sabrina Telle, Creative Strategy Director at Laika. The council comprises more than 250 industry experts.
The second season partner is The Nonfiction Hotlist, a curatorial platform for independent nonfiction storytelling. “Independent, nonfiction storytelling has never been more powerful,” said Adam Neuhaus of the Nonfiction Hotlist.
ReelShort will co-host the season’s Los Angeles launch event on November 10 at the Montalbán Theater, featuring an exclusive screening of its upcoming book adaptation.
“Vertical video isn’t the future of storytelling. It’s the present,” said Sophie Xiong, Global Head of Content at ReelShort. “We’re seeing the format evolve across genres, talent and established IP, creating new ways for audiences to experience stories they already love and discover new ones.”
