YouTube Premium is Raising U.S. Subscription Prices
YouTube is increasing subscription prices for its Premium and Music tiers in the United States, joining a wave of platforms that have raised fees in recent months.
The YouTube Premium individual plan will rise from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while the family plan, which covers up to six accounts, will increase from $22.99 to $26.99 per month, according to Variety.
The YouTube Music individual plan will move from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, and the YouTube Music family plan will climb from $16.99 to $18.99 per month.
YouTube Premium Lite, which offers ad-free video viewing without music videos, offline downloads, or background play, will increase from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
New customers will see the updated pricing immediately. Existing subscribers will transition to the new rates starting in their June billing cycle and will receive an email notification at least 30 days in advance, per Variety.
“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the U.S. for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement reported by Business Insider. “This change allows us to maintain the features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of 300M+ tracks on YouTube Music.”
YouTube last raised Premium prices in July 2023, when the individual plan increased from $11.99 to $13.99 per month. The service launched in 2018 as the successor to YouTube Red, which debuted in 2015. One year ago, YouTube reported surpassing 125 million combined YouTube Music and Premium subscribers worldwide, up from 100 million in 2024, according to Variety.
The increases follow similar moves by Netflix, Paramount+, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, and Hulu, among others, all of which have raised U.S. prices within the past year.
