Sports Creator Growth on YouTube Shows Subscriber Count Alone Isn’t Enough, Report Finds

Brand marketers evaluating YouTube sports creators by subscriber count alone are missing a fuller picture of partnership value, according to a new report from AI-driven YouTube marketing platform Pixability. The “YouTube Creator Hot List: Sports Edition” ranks the fastest-growing sports creators in Q2 2026 and argues that momentum and content format, alongside audience size, determine which creators are worth a brand’s attention.

The report’s underlying data shows the average YouTube ad campaign runs 82% of its activity across creator channels, compared with 18% across publishers, brands, and other channel types. In practice, that means creator channels account for the majority of YouTube campaign activity.

Momentum Doesn’t Track Neatly With Size

Pixability’s rankings split creators into three tiers by subscriber count: macro (500,000 to 1 million-plus), mid-tier (100,000 to 500,000), and micro/nano (1,000 to 100,000). Growth is uneven across them. Macro creators posted the steepest quarter-over-quarter subscriber gains, led by Come And Talk 2 Me at 976%, followed by OTE (971%) and Cameron Das Racing (918%). Mid-tier growth topped out at 478% for Lukegerr. Micro and nano creators grew more slowly, peaking at 74% for golf channel MV Golf.

The three cultural trends Pixability identifies as driving that growth, surfaced through its Glystn cultural intelligence platform, skew toward specific tiers. Track, race, and competition coverage (up 159% quarter-over-quarter) and NBA GOAT debate content (up 113%) both skew mid-tier. Combat sports content blending technical instruction with personality-driven entertainment (up 51%) skews macro. Pixability frames identifying this kind of momentum early, before a creator breaks out into a recognizable name, as the harder and more valuable part of creator selection than simply identifying the biggest channels.

Format Is Another Signal Worth Weighing

The report’s profiles also surface content format as a factor in brand suitability. OTE, a macro-tier basketball channel with 983,000 subscribers, draws 92% of its views from Shorts. Combat Side Stories, a channel in the micro/nano tier with 26,500 subscribers, is nearly 100% Shorts. Brittany Wilson Isenhour, a mid-tier soccer creator, sits at 88%. A high Shorts ratio indicates that a creator’s audience is primarily engaging with short-form content, giving brands another format signal to weigh alongside sponsorship history, audience fit and suitability data when evaluating a partnership.

Pixability outlines three ways brands can act on this data: paid YouTube programs built around creators already showing momentum within a trend, sponsorships matched using suitability and audience-fit signals rather than follower count alone, and organic strategy informed by the content themes and formats audiences are responding to.

The company points to a campaign for Molson Coors’ Happy Thursday beverage line, built with Famous Birthdays to reach Gen Z drinkers 21 and over, which it says produced three times higher click-through rates from TikTok-native creators activated on YouTube versus other targeting strategies, and a 49% lift in performance efficiency. The campaign won “Best Contextual Targeting” at the 2025 Digiday Media Awards.
