Kaleidoscope Secures $5M To Expand Into Film, TV While Growing Podcast Portfolio
Podcast company Kaleidoscope has raised $5 million in Series A funding to develop new audio shows and pursue film and television adaptations of its intellectual property. The funding round, led by Burda Principal Investments and North Base Media, includes participation from previous investors The Raine Group, former MTV leader Tom Freston, and venture capital firm Nimble Ventures, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Founded by Emmy-winning producer Oz Woloshyn and former iHeartMedia SVP Mangesh Hattikudur, Kaleidoscope focuses on science and technology storytelling. Popular titles in its portfolio include “ON Musk featuring Walter Isaacson.”
Kaleidoscope plans to use the new capital to develop tentpole shows as originals and mine its IP library for Hollywood adaptations.
“Kaleidoscope is building for an audience that’s educated, globally minded, and culturally engaged — with an underserved demand to understand how their lives are being changed by rapid advances in science and tech,” Woloshyn said in a statement.
The company’s upcoming content slate includes collaborations with producer John Legend and actor-entrepreneur Rob Mac. Hattikudur revealed that the company will create content around artificial intelligence, biotech, and other emerging technologies.
Market Positioning
When launching Kaleidoscope in 2022, Woloshyn identified a market opportunity in what he called a “clear blue ocean” for international adventure stories and global narratives. The company established an early distribution partnership with iHeartMedia.
“We’re eager to tap into the richness of those stories and tell them with the vibrancy they deserve. We know young audiences are hungry for this content, and they’re turning to podcasts as their primary source of news,” stated Hattikudur.
The founders previously noted that creating content outside the U.S. presents economic advantages due to lower overseas production budgets. Their initial slate with iHeartMedia included six series, starting with “Obsessions: Wild Chocolate,” which followed a food journalist searching for rare cacao beans in the Amazon.
