How Sprout Social Turned Cannes Lions Into a Creator Community Play

At Cannes Lions 2026, Sprout Social had a presence at Canva Beach with a cabana, but the company’s broader strategy centered on something beyond a physical footprint: building a creator network designed to extend beyond the festival itself. Through its Recruit feature, Sprout assembled a community of more than 250 creators from 16 countries.

Curtis Midkiff Jr., Sprout’s Director of Social Media Marketing and co-host of Sprout Social’s Creator Network at Cannes, described the reasoning in a LinkedIn post. “Instead of having the biggest physical footprint on the beach, we asked a simple question: What if we built the strongest network?” he wrote.

Rather than providing creators with a generic event agenda, Sprout built personalized action plans around each participant’s specific goals, which ranged from meeting brands and finding collaborators to navigating where substantive conversations were happening throughout the week. The company also launched a WhatsApp community that expanded beyond event logistics: within days, creators were sharing housing options, event recommendations, and last-minute paid partnership opportunities with one another.

Two participants, Rae Davidson and Brittany Fleming, rerouted their travel through Chicago to visit Sprout’s headquarters before the festival began.

What Sprout’s Intelligence Index Recorded

Separately, Sprout published a real-time social monitoring dashboard tracking Cannes Lions conversation across the industry. Updated through June 25 and drawing on the company’s Listening, NewsWhip, and Influencer Marketing tools, the Intelligence Index recorded 1.34 billion potential impressions, $4.57 million in earned media value, 747,000 social reactions, and 97% positive sentiment across approximately 4,000 published articles.

Festival-wide brand conversation concentrated around Spotify, UTA, NYSE, and the 600K Network, with the latter leading discussion tied to the Titanium award shortlist. The Oreo Cows and 600K Network campaigns each recorded 100% positive sentiment; Heineken Tocayos reached 94%. By potential impressions, the top narratives were creator community building at 95.4 million, social impact campaigns at 71.4 million, and career milestone events at 12.1 million.

Among individual content performances the dashboard captured, a Billboard post featuring Sienna Spiro performing at the festival generated 53,500 engagements, and an Instagram Reel from Brittany Lashae, whom LinkedIn brought to Cannes, recorded a 185% engagement rate against an industry average of 1.27%.

Midkiff described the program’s scope as extending past the festival week. “Our vision is to build a long-term relationship between Sprout and the creator community,” he wrote, “one rooted in shared value, learning, connection, and showing up for each other.”
