Former Apple Executive Launches AI Likeness Governance Platform for Creators

Phillip Shoemaker, a former Senior Director of App Store Review at Apple, has launched PersonaShield, a platform that enables creators, influencers, and public figures to monitor, enforce, and monetize the use of their likeness across AI systems and digital platforms.

PersonaShield allows users to upload their images, set guidelines for permitted and prohibited uses, and authorize the platform to submit takedown requests on their behalf. Fans and followers can also access the platform to pay for licensed use of a creator’s image and likeness, generating a revenue stream from approved content.

“AI isn’t the problem. The problem is that nobody asked,” Shoemaker, who serves as founder and CEO, said in a press release. “Someone put your likeness on their channel, used it to sell a product, or built it into a campaign or cause, and never asked your permission. Your likeness carries your reputation, your livelihood, and your brand.”

PersonaShield organizes its capabilities into three components. The Consent and Rights Registry stores verified identity data alongside machine-readable rules defining what is allowed, restricted, or available for monetization. The Protection Integration layer handles automated monitoring and enforcement. The Brand-Safe Creation component provides a licensed environment for fan-generated content with provenance tracking and revenue sharing.

The company describes its approach as a “permission layer for AI identity,” an infrastructure layer that positions itself between AI generation tools, platforms, and creators.

Shoemaker also founded Identity.org, a non-profit focused on digital rights, privacy, and AI’s impact on human identity. He is currently onboarding a group of founding creators to help shape the platform’s development.

“Creators don’t want AI to go away,” Shoemaker said. “They want a say in how it’s used. This is about turning identity from something you defend into something you control.”

PersonaShield is scheduled to present at VidCon in Anaheim on June 27.
