American Eagle Partners With Snapchat To Showcase 800+ Stores On Snap Map For Back-To-School Shopping

American Eagle has launched a partnership with Snapchat to feature over 800 retail locations across the U.S. as Promoted Places on Snap Map. The initiative comes as new research indicates 95% of Snapchatters plan to shop in-store for back-to-school items this year.

American Eagle becomes the first specialty fashion retailer to utilize Promoted Places, a new advertising placement that highlights points of interest on Snap Map and aims to drive foot traffic to physical stores.

The partnership creates multiple touchpoints for consumers. Snapchatters who view American Eagle locations on Snap Map can access Stories and Spotlight content from the retailer, as well as from creators and other users. The feature also enables direct shopping on ae.com, creating a seamless connection between digital discovery and online purchasing.

Additionally, American Eagle is releasing an AE Jeans Try-on Haul Lens available in the Lens Carousel and on their Public Profile, expanding their augmented reality offerings.

This initiative builds upon American Eagle’s established relationship with Snapchat. The retailer opened a store on the platform in 2021 and launched “Destination Holid@e” in November 2022, a virtual experience that allows users to preview outfits based on their holiday destination preferences.

Social Platforms as Retail Gateways

The collaboration aligns with findings from recent research by Snapchat, Publicis Media, and NRG, showing that social media has replaced traditional retail spaces as the primary method for trend discovery. Over 80% of Snapchatters use social platforms as their primary source for tracking fashion trends.

“Snap Map is where millions of Snapchatters go to see what’s happening around them. With over 40 billion opens last quarter alone, it’s become one of the most powerful platforms for real-time discovery,” stated Crystal Alexander, Senior Manager, Client Partner at Snap Inc.

The feature reaches 400 million monthly Snap Map users, offering retailers a direct channel to potential customers.
