YouTube Leads Platforms in Creator Content Preference Across Generations, Report Finds

YouTube is the platform where creator content most consistently wins consumer attention, regardless of the age group surveyed, according to a new report from ad-tech firm Precisify. Across teens, Millennials, and Gen Alpha audiences in multiple countries, YouTube led every other platform in Precisify’s proprietary panel data, and the company’s research also tied that attention to measurable gains in purchase confidence, ad recall, and final purchase decisions.

The report, “Precisify Insights: Influencer,” compiles panel surveys across verticals including luxury, finance, and Gen Alpha audiences to map where creator content moves consumer behavior.

YouTube Leads Across Every Generation Surveyed

Precisify found that influencer content on YouTube captures over 65% of adult audience attention. Broken down by age group, teens named YouTube their preferred platform for watching favorite creators at 66%, followed by TikTok at 57%, Instagram at 42%, YouTube Shorts at 35%, and Facebook at 32%. Millennials showed an even wider gap, choosing YouTube at 65%, with TikTok and Facebook tied for second at 37% each, Instagram at 32%, and YouTube Shorts at 31%.

The pattern extended internationally among Gen Alpha respondents. Precisify’s data showed YouTube leading in the U.S. (73%), the UK (69%), Australia (70%), and Germany (62%), with YouTube Shorts as the consistent second choice in three of the four markets. TikTok’s share varied more widely by country, from 19% in Germany to 42% in Australia.

Media cartographer Evan Shapiro, quoted in the report, said Millennials turn to YouTube for creator content “by nearly 2-to-1” over other platforms, and noted that “teens have a more diverse creator palate, using multiple platforms to consume this content,” while YouTube remains their dominant choice and TikTok has become “a creator favorite” among the alternatives.

Trust on YouTube Converts to Purchase Confidence

Precisify’s research connected that platform preference to purchase behavior. More than 50% of affluent U.S. adults surveyed said they use influencer videos on YouTube to finalize a decision when choosing between two competing brands, and 71% of respondents said they have increased their YouTube watch time on a TV screen over the past year, according to the report.

YouTube also led on ad recall by a wide margin. Precisify found that 43% of men and 32% of women could recall specific product features from a YouTube ad, compared with TikTok (17% among men, 22% among women) and Instagram (16% and 18%, respectively).

Trust Extends Into Regulated and Younger-Skewing Categories

The YouTube effect held even in categories where consumers are typically cautious. Among 644 main earners Precisify surveyed on financial decisions, 22% said they visit YouTube first for advice before turning to any other platform or search engine, and 50% said influencers have an impact on the financial decisions they make.

Among 2,000 Gen Alpha respondents surveyed by Precisify, 80% said they make purchase requests driven by influencer videos, and 76% of those aged 10 to 12 said they remember ads created by influencers. Separately, 77% of parents reported experiencing purchase requests from their children during co-viewing sessions, and over a third of Gen Alpha said they watch influencer videos on a phone or tablet while simultaneously watching TV.

Scott Guthrie, Director General of the Influencer Marketing Trade Body, said in the report that the shift reflects a broader change in what creators are: “Today creators are production company owners. Brands turn to them for creative partnerships, for cultural relevance, and for connection with core communities.”
