Smosh Adds Four Cast Members as Comedy Brand Expands Live Programming

Smosh has added four new cast members to its sketch comedy ensemble, formally integrating Courtney Theophin, Eli Gonzalez, Emily Wirth, and Tatyana Guchi after months of recurring appearances across its content.

The four are scheduled to appear across Smosh’s digital and live slate, including new installments of its live horror-comedy show “We’re All Gonna Die,” its “Dino Week” programming, and an upcoming multi-episode Halloween special called “Werewolf,” premiering October 23.

“Building the Smosh cast is something we approach with a lot of care because the chemistry among our performers is core to everything we create,” said Smosh CEO Alessandra Catanese. “Courtney, Eli, Emily, and Tatyana began appearing as ‘friends-of’ across several series, and their talent, rapport with our ensemble, and the response from our community quickly made it clear that they belonged at Smosh.”

Theophin, a comedian, actor, writer, and producer, has performed with Upright Citizens Brigade and works as a producer at NPR. Gonzalez has credits including the upcoming “Baywatch” reboot, NBC’s “St. Denis Medical,” and “Bosch: Legacy.” Wirth guest hosts “Are You Okay?” for NowThis and has an original series, “We Saw a Dragon,” in development with Funny or Die. Guchi has been named a Laugh Factory Fresh Face and was a finalist for ABFF’s “Because They’re Funny Comedy Festival Breakout Comedian of the Year.”

Smosh co-founders Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla said each new cast member “brings a distinct background, comedic perspective, and energy that opens up new possibilities for what we can create together.”

The expansion follows two other moves this year: Smosh’s appointment of Cory Midgarden, a 14-year Paramount veteran, as its first chief content officer in May, and its move into a larger production studio. Midgarden’s mandate covers content strategy, talent and casting, and the development of talent-driven formats meant to grow into long-running franchises, an effort the new cast additions now feed directly. Separately, Smosh cast member Arasha Lalani is departing the brand to pursue independent projects, including Fesspool, a call-in confession show produced by 7EQUIS.

Founded in 2005 by Padilla and Hecox, Smosh has grown from one of YouTube’s earliest channels into a multimedia studio with more than 45 million YouTube subscribers, 31 million social followers, and over 20 billion lifetime video views.
