TikTok Adds Motion And Brightness Controls To Improve Accessibility

TikTok introduces new accessibility features designed to support users with neurological, cognitive, and visual sensitivities, the company announces. The platform rolled out two new toggles that let users customize their viewing experience.

New Accessibility Toggles

The platform launched a High Dynamic Range (HDR) to Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) toggle globally. The feature allows users to disable HDR video playback and automatically view videos in SDR. TikTok positions this as beneficial for users dealing with light sensitivity, low vision, and migraines caused by bright or rapidly changing HDR visuals. The toggle appears only on devices that support HDR playback.

TikTok also rolled out a Reduced Motion toggle to all users globally. The platform supports device settings to reduce motion. The feature minimizes motion-based effects, animations, and transitions that may cause cognitive and motion sensitivities.

When users enable Reduced Motion, the platform reduces screen transitions, including page-to-page animations and bottom sheet slide-up and slide-down effects. TikTok states all interactive elements, from carousels and tooltips to pop-ups and menus, remain fully supported with reduced motion.

Expanded Accessibility Suite

The updates join TikTok’s existing accessibility tools. The platform previously introduced alternative text for photos in May 2025, allowing creators to add alt text during upload or after publishing.

Additional features include color contrast controls, bold text support that respects device settings, auto-generated captions for videos, dark mode, text-to-speech, and thumbnail animation controls. The platform consolidates these features on a redesigned accessibility settings page.

TikTok frames the updates as part of its commitment to serve users with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive differences. The company states that accessibility remains a top priority in ensuring a positive platform experience for all users.
