Children’s YouTube Channel CoComelon To Launch New Live-Action Show In September
Moonbug Entertainment is launching “The Melon Patch,” a new live-action series from its CoComelon franchise, on YouTube beginning September 23. The 25-minute episodes will be released bi-weekly and feature animated character Ms. Appleberry in live-action form.
According to Kidscreen, the educational series targets preschool-aged viewers with segments focused on art, storytelling, movement, and child development milestones. Ms. Appleberry will be joined by co-teachers, including Mr. Doodad, Mr. Acorn, and Ms. Twist.
This marks CoComelon’s second live-action production following “CoComelon Classroom” (previously “Melon Patch Classroom”), which launched in fall 2024.
Growing Amid Platform Changes
The new show comes as Moonbug continues its expansion of the CoComelon brand. The company is developing a theatrical feature with Universal Pictures scheduled for 2027 and a co-branded series with Sanrio’s Hello Kitty planned for 2026.
CoComelon’s YouTube presence has grown from 60 million subscribers five years ago to 200 million today, with Moonbug properties generating 10 billion views in January 2025 alone.
In streaming, CoComelon will move from Netflix to Disney+ starting in 2027. The change follows what Netflix sources describe as a nearly 60% viewership decline from early 2023 to late 2024, though other sources indicate Disney simply outbid Netflix for the rights.
Kevin Mayer, co-CEO of Candle Media, Moonbug’s parent company, has described the upcoming theatrical release as “the apex of the CoComelon story” as part of the company’s strategy to deploy properties across multiple platforms.
