X Cracks Down on Content Theft in Creator Revenue Share Program
X is taking action against large accounts that have been copying and reuploading content from smaller creators to exploit its revenue-share program.
Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced that the platform has spent the past month identifying accounts that “programmatically reupload content from smaller accounts to game the revenue share program and circumvent crediting the original author.” X is now reallocating impressions from those posts entirely to the original creators.
Over the past month, we have identified a number of large accounts that have been programmatically reuploading content from smaller accounts to game the revenue share program and circumvent crediting the original author.

We are now identifying these posts and allocating the…
X’s creator revenue-share program allows eligible creators to earn money from engagement on the platform. That structure has created an incentive for some accounts to repost or repackage viral content before the original creator receives credit.
How Attribution Will Work
For creators who want to comment on another user’s content, Bier recommended using X’s Share Video or Quote features. “Commentary is encouraged and will get a portion of impressions,” he said. “However, original posts will always get the bulk of the allocation.”
A High-Profile Case
As Business Insider reports, Bier also called out Mario Nawfal, CEO of crypto consulting firm IBC Group and host of the largest live discussion show on X, who has approximately 3.5 million followers. After Nawfal reposted a video of an ABC News journalist reacting to gunshots fired outside the White House without crediting the original poster, Bier said his account’s revenue “was reduced by 90% last cycle” and that X was “running out of room to reduce it more.”
Nawfal said his account always uses the video reshare option, but that the feature does not work for longer posts.
