Video Podcasts Surge In Q2, Joe Rogan Maintains Top Spot In Edison’s Rankings

“The Joe Rogan Experience” maintains its #1 position in Edison Research’s Q2 2025 podcast rankings, continuing its dominance from Q1. The latest “Edison Podcast Metrics” report, based on interviews with 5,086 weekly podcast consumers ages 13 and older, shows the top five podcasts remaining unchanged: “Crime Junkie,” “The Daily,” “Call Her Daddy,” and “This Past Weekend w/Theo Von” round out the leading positions.

Notable movements include “SmartLess” climbing three spots to #6, “Stuff You Should Know” rising five positions to #8, while “Dateline NBC” drops one spot to #7.

Edison Podcast Metrics now incorporates data from individuals whose podcast consumption occurs exclusively through video, reflecting the medium’s evolution. Respondents are asked not only if they listened to podcasts but also if they watched video podcasts in the past week.

This methodological change has significantly impacted rankings, with video-heavy programs seeing substantial gains. “No Jumper” and “The Pat McAfee Show” climbed 11 and 26 spots, respectively, demonstrating video’s growing influence in podcast consumption.

New Opportunities

“The Mel Robbins Podcast” rose to #11, while “The Megyn Kelly Show” entered the Top 20 for the first time at #19. Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” debuted in the Top 50 at #42 after launching in mid-March.

Edison is expanding its reach through integration with Nielsen Media Impact, making podcast metrics available to users of this leading planning tool starting next month. The company has also launched Top Podcast badges for shows ranked in the Top 10, Top 25, and Top 50.

Podcast advertising effectiveness continues to strengthen, with 44% of weekly listeners reporting product purchases after hearing podcast ads in Q1 2025, up from 34% in Q1 2020.

Record Audience Reach Across Demographics

Podcast consumption has reached new highs in 2025, with 55% of Americans now listening monthly and 40% tuning in weekly, according to Edison’s recent research. Americans consume 773 million hours of podcast content weekly, representing a 355% increase since 2015.

Video formats are redefining the medium, with 51% of the U.S. population having consumed a video podcast. Currently, 37% watch video podcasts monthly and 26% weekly. Video podcast viewers demonstrate different discovery patterns, with higher rates of finding content through YouTube (31% compared to 21% for audio-only listeners).
