Streamer Emiru Assaulted At TwitchCon, Raising Safety Concerns

Popular Twitch streamer Emiru, who has nearly two million followers, faced a reported assault during a meet-and-greet event on the first day of TwitchCon 2025. Video footage posted on X shows an individual approaching Emiru, grabbing her, and appearing to attempt a kiss before security intervenes. Despite the incident, Emiru returned to complete the scheduled event.

The video, posted at 8:21 p.m. EST on Friday, October 17, accumulates nearly 400,000 views within hours. The footage captures security personnel removing the individual by the arm after Emiru pushes the person away.

Twitch’s Response

Twitch issued an immediate statement regarding the incident, emphasizing their commitment to attendee safety. “The safety and security of all those attending TwitchCon is our highest priority,” a Twitch spokesperson said. “The behavior displayed by the individual involved in this incident was completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting.”

The platform confirmed taking swift action, removing the individual from TwitchCon premises and implementing an indefinite ban from Twitch’s online platform and in-person events. The statement reiterates Twitch’s “zero tolerance for harassment.”

The alleged assault occurred against a backdrop of growing concerns about streamer safety at industry events. Hours before the incident, Mary Kish, Twitch’s head of community, discussed with Mashable the importance of educating streamers about harassment, particularly against women, and creating safe spaces.

This year’s TwitchCon already faces notable absences, with streamers Valkyrae and QTCinderella withdrawing from the event, citing anxiety about risks female streamers face in public spaces. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy previously promised improved safety protocols at events.

Previous Incidents

The TwitchCon incident marks Emiru’s second high-profile harassment incident in recent months. In March, while livestreaming in Santa Monica with streamers Cinna and Valkyrae, a man reportedly threatened to kill them, according to BBC reporting.

TwitchCon’s safety record includes disruptions in 2024, when Kick-affiliated streamers harassed Twitch streamers on-site, despite assurances from Twitch leadership that “we take security at our events, like TwitchCon, extremely seriously.”

The incident highlights ongoing challenges for platforms hosting large-scale in-person events in the creator economy, where the line between digital audiences and real-world interactions continues to present safety concerns for content creators.
