Snap Acquires Saturn Calendar App To Boost Social Features For Teen Users

Snap Inc. has acquired Saturn, a calendar application widely used by high school students, per Engadget. Terms of the deal remain undisclosed, but approximately 30 Saturn full-time employees will join Snap as part of the acquisition.

Saturn will continue operating as a standalone service while Snap explores integrating calendar functionality into Snapchat. The social calendar app currently serves students at more than 17,000 high schools, reaching approximately 80% of U.S. high schoolers, according to Snap. The company’s Q1 2025 report shows that monthly active users grew to 900 million, up from 850 million reported in August.

Saturn, founded by Dylan Diamond (CEO) and Max Baron (COO), previously secured $44 million in funding from high-profile investors including Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, and Jeff Bezos’ Bezos Expeditions.

Teen-Focused Features

The acquisition comes amid Snap’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety for its predominantly young user base. At its December 2024 Law Enforcement Summit, Snap outlined expanded safety operations and new features designed to restrict stranger interactions with teens, including enhanced blocking tools and warning systems.

Saturn’s appeal lies in its Snapchat-like interface that enables teenagers to share and compare schedules with friends. The platform supports features specific to high school routines, including block schedules, rotation calendars, and management of extracurricular activities.

The deal strengthens Snap’s reach among teenagers as the company faces legal scrutiny over its youth access policies. In April, Florida’s Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Snap, alleging violations of state law restricting children’s access to social media platforms.
