Podcast Movement announced at SXSW (March 12-18) that Podcast Movement Evolutions will return to the festival in 2027.
The 2026 edition marked the event’s first full integration into SXSW, bringing together podcast and Creator Economy professionals for three days of programming, keynotes, performances, and networking in downtown Austin.
“For the first year of bringing Podcast Movement Evolutions to SXSW, the event far exceeded our expectations,” said Bryan Barletta, Partner at Sounds Profitable and President of Podcast Movement, in a press release. “Podcasting is now competing for attention across every medium, and that changes the level of effort required to stand out. Showing up at SXSW with real talent, meaningful programming, and new voices in the room is the new baseline.”
Platform Keynotes and Industry Programming
Platform representation featured prominently in the event’s programming.
Steve McLendon, Product Lead for YouTube’s podcasting initiatives, delivered a keynote on the platform’s growth to more than one billion monthly active podcast viewers, covering video discovery, creator tools, and audience engagement.
Apple Podcasts executives Stacey Goers and Jake Shapiro presented details on the company’s recently announced video podcast experience powered by HLS (HTTP Live Streaming). The capability introduces a dedicated video experience within Apple Podcasts and gives creators control over distribution and monetization, including dynamic video advertising through hosting and ad tech partners.
Awards and Evening Events
The event concluded with The Independent Podcaster and Creator Awards (Indie PaC), presented by Oxford Road and hosted by Killer Mike. Winners included Steven Bartlett (“The Diary of a CEO”), Tim Ferriss (“The Tim Ferriss Show”), and Hala Taha (“Young and Profiting”).
Evening programming featured “Companion Presents: In Good Company,” a live storytelling and performance event featuring appearances by Penn Badgley and performances by multiple artists.
Conference Calendar
The 2027 SXSW return follows Podcast Movement’s previously announced flagship annual conference, scheduled for New York City at Terminal 5 from September 14-18, 2026. That event will include the Sounds Profitable Business Summit, targeting senior industry decision-makers, and a main conference for creators at all experience levels.
