Netflix to Roll Out Vertical Video Feed, AI Recommendations in Mobile Redesign

Netflix will launch a vertical video discovery feed within its mobile apps by the end of April, the company announced alongside its Q1 2026 earnings results. The redesign also expands the company’s use of artificial intelligence for content recommendations and advertising.

Vertical Video and Discovery

Netflix has tested a vertical video feed since 2025. The feature is designed to help users discover video podcasts alongside the company’s existing catalog of shows and films. The updated mobile experience follows a broader redesign of Netflix’s TV interface.

Co-CEO Gregory Peters said the company still sees room to improve its personalization systems. “We have been in personalization and recommendation for two decades, but we still see tremendous room to make it better by leveraging newer technologies,” Peters said.

“Recommendation systems based on new model architectures not only improve current personalization but also let us iterate and improve more quickly, adding support for different content types much more efficiently.”

AI in Content and Advertising

Netflix also outlined plans to apply generative AI tools across content production and its advertising business.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said AI would improve the tools available to creators without replacing the creative process. “In general, we expect GenAI to make content better; better tools, better processes,” Sarandos said. “It takes a great artist to make great art, and AI won’t change that. But AI will give those artists better tools to bring those visions to life.”

Netflix acquired InterPositive, Ben Affleck’s AI filmmaking company, in March 2026. Sarandos said the acquisition has attracted creator interest. “While our ownership of InterPositive is very new, we have generated interest with creators who have spent time with the tools, and we are seeing momentum build around adoption,” he said.

The company projects $3 billion in advertising revenue for 2026, up from $1.5 billion in 2025, and plans to use AI to support new ad formats and customization capabilities.

Netflix reported revenue of $12.25 billion in Q1 2026, up 16.2% year over year, with net income rising to $5.28 billion. The company maintained its full-year 2026 revenue guidance of $50.7 billion to $51.7 billion and an operating margin target of 31.5%.
