Netflix Signs Celebrity Chef Nick DiGiovanni to Bring YouTube Content to Streaming Platform
Netflix has struck a deal with celebrity chef and YouTube creator Nick DiGiovanni to bring his cooking content to the streaming platform later this year, per Deadline. The agreement will make DiGiovanni’s full back catalog available on Netflix, along with new content from his “Nick DiGiovanni” and “Nick’s Kitchen” channels, which will stream day-and-date with YouTube.
“Food brings people together; that’s been my mission from day one. With Netflix, the table gets a whole lot bigger, and everyone’s invited,” DiGiovanni said in a statement.
DiGiovanni has more than 60 million followers across social platforms. The deal continues Netflix’s expansion into podcast and YouTube-native video, a category the streamer has increasingly targeted after years of it driving substantial viewership on YouTube itself.
The agreement lands one day after Netflix announced it would bring Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal’s “Good Mythical Morning” to the platform, along with two additional titles from the pair’s Mythical Entertainment arm, “Mythical Kitchen” and “Last Meals.” All three will begin streaming on September 7, including full archives and new episodes released alongside YouTube.
The DiGiovanni deal fits a broader run of creator signings Netflix has made in recent months. The streamer has brought on YouTube-built talent, including Alan Chikin Chow, whose “Alan’s Universe” franchise is joining the platform, the Stokes Twins, whose YouTube archive arrives on Netflix alongside a long-form series in development, and previously Ms. Rachel, Mark Rober, The Sidemen, and 16-year-old creator Salish Matter.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos has described YouTube as a “farm league” for creators, noting the platform does not offer the upfront production funding a studio deal provides. Last month, iHeartMedia and Netflix expanded their video podcast partnership to include shows featuring Martha Stewart, Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson, and Lele Pons, and Netflix separately signed a live daily video deal for “The Breakfast Club” with Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Jess Hilarious.
