Apple Acquires Video Editing Company MotionVFX to Expand Creator Studio Subscriber Base
Apple has acquired MotionVFX, a Poland-based video editing company that offers plugins, templates, and visual effects tools for Final Cut Pro, according to CNBC. The acquisition allows Apple to integrate MotionVFX’s capabilities directly rather than relying on third-party extensions.
“We are extremely excited to share that MotionVFX is joining the Apple team to continue to empower creators and editors to do their best work,” the startup said on its website. “From the very beginning, we’ve been all about quality, ease of use, and great design. These are also the values that we admire most in Apple’s products, and we’re thrilled to be able to embrace them together.”
The acquisition follows Apple’s January launch of Creator Studio, a bundle packaging professional creative apps, including Final Cut Pro. The offering competes with Adobe Creative Cloud, which provides access to more than 20 professional applications.
Creator Studio’s existence was foreshadowed in November 2025, when developer Aaron Perris discovered code references to “Apple Creator Studio” in the first beta of iOS 26.2, alongside App Store IDs for iPad versions of previously Mac-exclusive applications, including Pixelmator Pro, MainStage, Motion, and Compressor.
Services Revenue Push
The deal extends Apple’s pattern of acquiring small companies to acquire talent and integrate technology. Apple’s services business, which includes iCloud, Apple Music, and app bundles, has higher profit margins than its hardware business. The division generated $85.2 billion in fiscal 2025, according to Tech Buzz.
Apple previously acquired Pixelmator, adding to its professional creative software portfolio. The MotionVFX deal positions Apple to attract additional Creator Studio subscribers while competing more directly with Adobe Premiere Pro’s plugin ecosystem.
