TikTok Tests Feed Controls For AI Content, Launches $2M Education Fund

TikTok announced new tools for managing AI-generated content on its platform, including user controls for feed customization and enhanced labeling technologies. The company also established a $2 million fund to support AI literacy education.

New Feed Customization Options

According to the announcement, TikTok is testing a new AI-generated content control within its existing “Manage Topics” feature in the coming weeks. The tool allows users to adjust how much AI-generated content appears in their For You feeds. The control functions similarly to existing category adjustments that cover over 10 topics, including Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks.

Users who prefer more AI-generated history content can increase its frequency, while others can reduce it. The company states the feature helps people tailor content rather than removing it entirely from feeds.

Invisible Watermarking Technology

TikTok introduces “invisible watermarking” to strengthen its AI-generated content labeling system. The platform already requires creators to label realistic AI-generated content and uses multiple detection methods, including creator labeling tools, proprietary detection models, and C2PA Content Credentials technology. These efforts have labeled more than 1.3 billion videos to date.

The new invisible watermarks address a common industry challenge where labels get removed when content is reuploaded or edited on other platforms. TikTok adds these watermarks to content created with tools like AI Editor Pro and content uploaded with C2PA Content Credentials.

The watermarks help the platform label content more reliably and provide context about content modifications. TikTok continues reading C2PA Content Credentials and embedding them into AI-generated content made on its platform.

AI Literacy Fund and Industry Partnerships

TikTok launched a $2 million AI literacy fund to support expert-created educational content. Organizations like GirlsWhoCode receive funding to produce For You feed content teaching AI literacy and safety. The fund includes over 20 experts across more than a dozen markets globally, with plans to add more participants.

TikTok has become a sponsor of the non-profit Partnership on AI and joins two steering committees researching AI’s intersection with Enterprise and Human Connection. The company has been a founding member of the Partnership on AI’s Framework for Responsible Practices for Synthetic Media since 2023 and shares public updates on its implementation.

Over the past year, the company has enhanced its labels by adding context about whether content was labeled through AI detection, creator labels, or TikTok AI tools. The platform continues developing AI creation features, including Smart Split and AI Outline, and uses AI to support its trust and safety operations.
