Alex Cooper’s Unwell Shuts Down Beverage Line
“Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper’s Unwell Beverage Co. is shutting down, Bloomberg reported, days after Cooper’s media company Unwell landed a $500 million pre-money valuation from investment firm WTSL.
The beverage brand, launched in 2025 in partnership with Nestlé, will introduce additional flavors tied to Halloween before ending production across its entire line, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg. Target, the brand’s main retail partner, is selling through its remaining supply, the people said.
Unwell Beverage Co. debuted as Unwell Hydration with three flavors containing electrolytes, vitamins and caffeine, later expanding into protein- and energy-focused drinks. The products regularly appeared on the table between Cooper and her guests during video episodes of “Call Her Daddy.” Cooper had positioned the brand as an alternative to energy drinks marketed toward men, telling the New York Times’ DealBook Summit in 2024: “Every time I went to pick up an energy drink or any type of hydration drink, it’s all catered to men.” In May, the company released a limited-edition “red, white, and blueberry” flavor exclusively at Target.
The beverage business was one piece of a broader diversification push by Cooper and Kaplan, who co-founded the media company Trending in 2023 and built Unwell under its umbrella. Unwell’s podcast network now includes more than a dozen shows, among them Madeline Argy’s “Pretty Lonesome,” alongside a SiriusXM partnership for “Call Her Daddy” and the wider network reported at $125 million. The company also runs a creative agency and produces film and television projects through Kaplan’s ACE Entertainment, whose credits include Netflix’s “To All the Boys” franchise.
That expansion drew its first outside capital this week, when WTSL, the media and entertainment investment firm led by former Endeavor executive Patrick Whitesell and Jason Lublin, invested at the $500 million valuation. The amount invested was not disclosed. “Trust has become the ultimate distribution channel and 70 million women a month tune into Unwell,” Cooper said in a statement, adding that the company is “poised to accelerate our media platform’s growth through acquisitions and investments.” Whitesell said Cooper, Kaplan and their team have “demonstrated an exceptional ability to anticipate where audiences are headed.”
Bloomberg reported in April that Unwell had faced internal troubles, including executive turnover and shows that failed to find an audience, as the company managed a growing number of ventures. The beverage market Unwell entered included Emma Chamberlain’s coffee line and Logan Paul and KSI’s energy drink Prime.
