Udemy Acquires AI Tools Provider Lummi To Revamp Online Learning Experience
AI-powered skills development platform Udemy has acquired AI-driven design tools provider Lummi. The acquisition aims to enhance course content with custom illustrations, visual storytelling, and AI-generated assets.
Udemy instructors will now gain access to Lummi Pro features, including background removal, image-to-video conversion, and advanced AI editing capabilities.
“At Udemy, we believe skills development should go beyond content consumption,” Hugo Sarrazin, President and CEO at Udemy, said in a press release. “Integrating Lummi’s intuitive AI tools enhances how learners and instructors apply their skills, while enabling enterprises to create more engaging, customized content.”
Founded in 2020, Lummi’s technology has been utilized by creative professionals on platforms including Canva and Adobe Express.
Business Integration
As part of the deal, Udemy’s business customers can access Lummi Pro as an add-on to existing enterprise and team plan offerings. Lummi joins Udemy’s Innovation Studio and will contribute to product development.
The acquisition represents a key component of Udemy’s strategy to revamp its Instructor Academy, which will feature integrated tools including Lummi, Role Play, Assessments, and Labs designed to create more interactive learning experiences.
Udemy is offering instructors six months of free access to Lummi Pro, along with “prompting like a pro” guides to help creators maximize the new tools. The move comes shortly after Udemy launched new AI Packages to help organizations develop AI fluency, including an AI Readiness Package with 50 curated courses and the Udemy AI Assistant for real-time learning support.
