Tubi Orders First UK Original Under ‘Creators’ Program, Taps Football Freestylers Woody & Kleiny

Tubi has commissioned its first UK original series through its creator program, ordering “Wheel of Misfortune” from soccer freestylers Paul Wood and Paul Klein, known as “Woody & Kleiny,” per Deadline.

The pair have nearly 16 million YouTube followers and more than five million on Instagram, and have previously appeared on “Britain’s Got Talent.” In the new series, Woody & Kleiny spin a wheel and complete forfeits described in the show’s synopsis as “hilarious, brutal or downright ridiculous.” “Wheel of Misfortune” marks the duo’s first television commission; their content to date has been self-published.

The order comes through “Tubi for Creators,” an initiative that launched in the U.S. last year and has featured more than 500 episodes from creators including FunnyMike, Watcher, and Jubilee. Tubi says the program will expand into the UK, where the streamer reports that one in six Tubi UK viewers watched creator content in July, with creator programming accounting for more than 10% of total watch time in the country that month.

Sami Qasem, Tubi’s Director of Creator and Content Partnerships UK, said in an interview with Deadline that the commission reflects what audiences want from creators. “Creators have built some of today’s most passionate fandoms, and Woody & Kleiny have proven that they don’t need to become anything other than who they are to make great entertainment,” Qasem said. “Their roots in freestyle football, combined with humour, competition, personality and participation, resonate with what we’re seeing across audiences in the UK.”

Qasem called “Wheel of Misfortune” “an important first step as Tubi’s first UK exclusive creator series” under the initiative, adding that the platform expects its UK slate to “develop over time as we learn from audiences, creators and the performance of different formats.”

Tubi, owned by Fox Corp, is available in 11 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe and Oceania. Qasem said the company is “exploring all opportunities” for the program beyond the UK, noting that “each market has its own creator ecosystem, cultural nuances and passionate fandoms.”
