Advertising Week New York opened its 22nd year on October 5 at THE PENN DISTRICT, drawing a lineup that included tennis champion Venus Williams, Dhar Mann, Nick Cannon, Carson Daly, Harry Jowsey and Andy Grammer across a day of panels built around brand partnerships, sports and creator content.
LA28 and the Future of Women’s Sports
TODAY co-host Carson Daly moderated a conversation with Williams and LA28 Chief Marketing Officer Alex Merchán on preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which organizers say will span more than 50 events over 50 days. Asked whether she plans to compete in LA28, Williams said she is unsure she can, recounting her response to her husband’s wish that she play: “honey, we need to do other things.”
She added that she will “most certainly be there” regardless. Williams also discussed her hope that Los Angeles becomes a global role model city and pointed to building momentum behind women’s sports. On what makes a sports brand partnership authentic, she said live competition leaves no room for a second take: “it’s glory or disaster right in front of you.”
Dhar Mann Launches ‘$100M Creator Challenge’
Advertising Week New York’s inaugural Chief Creator Officer Dhar Mann and radio host Big Boy opened the week by unveiling the “$100M Creator Challenge,” an initiative meant to spur new creator and brand partnerships over the course of the event. Nick Cannon made a surprise appearance to discuss a collaboration with Mann announced this week. The panel closed with news of Dhar Mann Studios’ Creator City, a four-acre production campus in Los Angeles where Mann says creators, Hollywood, brands and technology companies will be able to make content and build businesses year-round.
Elsewhere on the first day, entrepreneur and podcast host Jason Tartick recorded a live episode of his show Trading Secrets with Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Melissa Gorga and Summer House’s Carl Radke. Boyfriend Material host Harry Jowsey joined executives from Snap Inc., Influencer, and Tubi to discuss how Snap Stars build relationships with their audiences. Jowsey credited Snapchat as central to his career, describing it as useful for behind-the-scenes content while filming Let’s Marry Harry, and said he tries to maximize his watch time on the platform, calling it “the greatest metric for creators.” Singer-songwriter Andy Grammer performed his new song “Love Showed Up” live during a panel on music and brand partnerships.
Advertising Week New York runs for four days at THE PENN DISTRICT. The remaining schedule includes Alix Earle, John Legend, Kerry Washington, Ciara and Russell Wilson, Issa Rae, Trevor Noah, Rob Gronkowski, Sophia Bush, Questlove, Megan Rapinoe, Terry Crews, WILLOW Smith, Wayne Gretzky, Allyson Felix, Ryan Serhant, The Try Guys, and others.
