TikTok Shop Bans AI Voices, Prerecorded Audio From Promotional Livestreams
TikTok Shop has banned AI-generated voices, prerecorded audio, and static-image content from promotional livestreams and shoppable videos, according to rules published in TikTok Shop’s US Academy. The policy applies to all sellers and creators running promotional content on the platform.
Under the updated rules, all verbal communication during a livestream must occur in real time, either spoken or signed. Still-frame content may not cover more than 50% of the screen. Sellers who violate the rules face commission restrictions, content removal, and account bans, enforced through TikTok’s Creator Health Rating system.

The prohibited formats include AI-generated voices, audio recordings used as narration, radio-style audio tracks, slideshows, looping footage, screen recordings, and screenshots of product detail pages, as reported by PYMNTS.
TikTok’s updated rules state: “Don’t use non-real-time verbal interaction such as AI-generated voices, audio recordings, or radio.” The platform also directs broadcasters to “engage directly with your viewers using real-time verbal or sign language communication.”
Standards for Recorded Content
For shoppable videos, TikTok Shop requires at least three seconds of dynamic content without still images or looping visuals. Content must be shot in a real-world environment, feature camera movement, and show the creator’s face alongside the physical product. The policy also sets production standards, including adequate lighting, stabilized footage, and synchronized audio.
Commerce Context
eMarketer projects TikTok Shop to reach $23.4 billion in U.S. eCommerce sales in 2026, a 48% increase year over year. TikTok livestreams drove 84% year-over-year sales growth for participating brands during Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025, per the same source.
As PYMNTS noted, the rules contrast with TikTok’s broader AI investment. TikTok has integrated ByteDance’s Dreamina Seedance 2.0 video model into Symphony, its creative AI suite for advertisers, and recently expanded the suite through a partnership with Adobe. The new Shop rules prohibit AI from replacing a human seller during live commerce sessions.
eMarketer found that when consumers notice AI-generated content in brand marketing, they are four times more likely to trust the brand less rather than more, at 31% versus 7%.
