TikTok Launches Trusted Creators Lab To Combat Misinformation In Southeast Asia

TikTok is introducing a seven-month program called “Trusted Creators Lab,” partnering with non-profit organization Temasek Foundation and creative agency Love Frankie to help content creators produce engaging, factual content amid rising concerns about misinformation in Southeast Asia.

The program brings together 19 creators from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, including six Singapore-based creators: Fauzi Azzhar, Mathilda Huang, Nancy Eva, Carrine Low, Amanda Ang, and Faris Samri. These participants will receive workshops, mentorship, and practical training focused on verifying facts and creating credible content.

“We recognize that creators play a vital role in shaping the digital information space,” said KahnJi Siriprapa Weerachaising, Outreach and Partnerships Manager at TikTok, in the announcement. “Through this program, we’re proud to support and amplify creators who are producing engaging, factual content.”

Southeast Asia Goes Digital

The initiative launches as Southeast Asia’s digital economy reaches an estimated $263 billion in Gross Merchandise Value with $122 billion in revenue, according to recent AnyMind Group research. Nearly two-thirds of Southeast Asia’s population actively use social media, with more than a third turning to these platforms for news.

However, a recent UNESCO/Bowling Green State University survey of 500 digital content creators across 45 countries revealed that nearly two-thirds of content creators do not consistently verify facts before sharing, highlighting the need for programs addressing information integrity. The same study found that 73% of respondents want more guidance on ethical content creation and fact-checking.

The Trusted Creators Lab will conclude in January 2026, with participant videos to be shared on TikTok, helping audiences better recognize online misinformation while continuing to discover content on the platform.
