Popfly Acquires Travel Startup Mount To Expand Creator Platform Into Local Experiences
Popfly announced that it has acquired Mount, a venture-backed travel platform, as the California-based creator collaboration company expands into travel and local experiences.
The acquisition integrates Mount’s network of travel creators, Airbnb hosts, experience operators, and tour operators into Popfly’s platform. Mount founders Madi Rifkin and Casey Evans will join Popfly’s team in key positions.
Mount built a community of travel creators whose content reached more than 50 million travelers monthly through organic distribution, according to the announcement. The platform connected Airbnb hosts, experience operators, and travel creators based on the premise that travelers trust authentic stories over traditional advertising.
“Mount proved that authentic storytelling drives real demand for travel experiences,” said Rifkin. “By joining Popfly, we can bring that model to more travel and short-term rental businesses, especially those who want to work with creators but don’t know where to start.”
Expansion Strategy
Mount’s customers will gain access to Popfly’s ecosystem, which includes creator discovery tools, collaboration features, insights and reporting, and infrastructure for creator-led growth. Popfly’s platform enables brands and local businesses to discover creators, collaborate on content, and manage relationships, payments, and deliverables.
Taylor Hoekstra, Popfly’s founder and CEO, described the acquisition as part of a broader strategy connecting the creator economy to physical locations.
“By combining Popfly’s infrastructure with Mount’s network, we’re moving creators beyond one-off collaborations and into durable ecosystems where trust, content, and revenue compound,” Hoekstra said. “The outdoor and travel economy is inherently physical, and we believe every local business or experience can become a real-world node – something creators collaborate with, communities visit, and brands activate.”
Popfly positions the acquisition as extending its reach beyond outdoor brands to businesses such as surf shops, ski resorts, and coffee roasters.
