Patreon Announces 10% Rate Increase For New Creators Starting August
Patreon is updating its pricing structure for new creators, consolidating its Pro (8%) and Premium (12%) plans into a single standard 10% plan for all creators who publish after August 4, 2025. Existing creators with published pages will maintain their current rates, the company announced today.
“For creators with published Patreon pages: Your pricing won’t increase,” the platform stated in a blog post. Those launching before the August 4 deadline will lock in the lower 8% platform rate.
The pricing update comes as the direct-to-fan market continues to demonstrate notable growth. According to Patreon’s research, creators earn 40 times more annual revenue per fan on Patreon than on TikTok, with average annual income reaching $52 per fan and $110 per paying member. The company projects the direct-to-fan market to grow from $194 billion in 2025 to $237 billion by 2027.
A new Epidemic Sound report indicates that 95% of creators are now engaging audiences through direct-to-fan models, with 27% relying on fan subscriptions through platforms like Patreon for revenue generation.
Patreon’s earlier research, conducted in June 2024, revealed that over 90% of creators with highly active communities earn at least $1,000 per month. Since introducing free membership and community chat features last year, the number of creator communities on the platform has doubled.
Expanding Beyond Payments
Patreon has undergone significant development since its last price update six years ago, expanding beyond payment processing to encompass media hosting, community features, and discovery tools. The platform reports that chat messages between creators and fans are growing at a rate of 63% year over year, with fans viewing over 80 million hours of Patreon videos in the past year.
The company is now introducing live streaming capabilities for select creators, with plans to roll out the feature more widely this summer. The feature includes built-in chat, moderation tools, and integration with popular streaming software, allowing creators to offer streams to all members or limit access to paid subscribers.
Additionally, Patreon will offer eligible creators 100 hours of video storage per month, up from the previous 100 total hours per account, lifetime.
