Meta Rolls Out ‘Plus’ Subscriptions Across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp
Meta has launched subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp globally, offering users paid access to additional features across its flagship apps while announcing tests of new tiers targeting creators, businesses, and AI users, per TechCrunch.
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are each priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus carries a $2.99 monthly fee. Subscribers to Instagram Plus gain access to story rewatch counts, unlimited audience lists beyond the existing “Close Friends” option, customizable profile fonts, additional profile pins, and Super Heart animated reactions. Facebook Plus offers a comparable set of social expression features, while WhatsApp Plus focuses on messaging personalization, including app themes, custom ringtones, and additional pinned chats.
Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, said the company plans to add “more fun features” going forward. The new plans sit alongside Meta Verified, the company’s existing verification and impersonation-protection product, which the company said it is not winding down.
Creator and Business Tiers Enter Testing
Meta said it would begin testing two professional subscription tiers in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh. The Meta One Essential plan, at $14.99 per month, includes a verified badge, impersonation protection, and an enhanced linksheet for aggregating an online presence across social channels and the web.
The Meta One Advanced plan, priced at $49.99 per month, adds placement in the Facebook feed, higher positioning in Facebook and Instagram search results, a bold “Follow” button on Reels, and automated follow invitations to users who engage with a creator’s content. Subscribers also gain access to links in Instagram posts and Reels, competitive insights on Instagram, custom audience insights on Facebook, optimized scheduling tools, and notifications when other accounts reuse their content.
Meta spokesperson Maria Cubeta said the company has been “testing subscription features for people to enhance how they express themselves and connect on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, like profile customization, stories insights, and super reactions,” telling WIRED that the plans form the start of the broader Meta One subscription portfolio.
AI Plans to Begin Testing Next Month
Meta said it would begin testing two AI-focused subscription plans in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia. Meta One Plus is priced at $7.99 per month. Meta One Premium, at $19.99 per month, unlocks deeper reasoning for complex tasks and expanded video and image-generation capabilities across Meta apps. The tech giant said the plans will add benefits for AI glasses users in the coming weeks. Meta AI will remain available at no cost for casual users.
