‘Hold My Hand’ Earns TikTok ‘UK Song Of The Year’ Following Viral Jet2 Holiday Trend
Jess Glynne’s 2015 single “Hold My Hand” has been named TikTok’s “UK Song of the Year” for 2025, marking a significant resurgence for the decade-old track driven by the viral “Nothing Beats a Jet2 holiday” trend.
The track soundtracked approximately 6.6 million videos on TikTok and accumulated more than 80 billion views across posts using the audio, according to the platform’s announcement. “Hold My Hand” also secured the second position on TikTok’s top 20 global songs of 2025, according to BBC Newsbeat.
TikTok users adopted the audio to create content around holiday mishaps, travel chaos, and vacation experiences, often using the song ironically in contrast to the optimistic tone of Jet2’s advertising campaigns that featured the track.
“‘Hold My Hand’ is an incredibly special song to me,” Glynne said in TikTok’s announcement. “The Jet2 campaign has brought a really fun, light-hearted twist to the song, and seeing it become TikTok’s song of 2025 ten years after its release has been incredible. It breathed new life into it, and I’m so grateful to see a wave of a new audience now connect with it.”
The 36-year-old London-based singer told BBC Newsbeat the trend gave the song a “new lease of life” and that she “feels blessed” to secure the TikTok title this year.
Chart Performance and Platform Impact
Despite the viral popularity, “Hold My Hand” did not re-enter the UK singles charts in 2025, BBC Newsbeat reports. The song originally topped UK charts for three weeks following its 2015 release as Glynne’s debut solo single.
TikTok calculates its song of the year rankings using a formula based on the number of videos using the music and the popularity of the artist’s own posts on the platform.
Pattern of Older Songs Finding New Audiences
The platform has reintroduced multiple older recordings to audiences in 2025. Users rediscovered Rihanna’s 2007 track “Breakin’ Dishes,” Radiohead’s 1997 song “Let Down,” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “Rock That Body” from 2010, according to TikTok’s announcement.
Connie Francis’s “Pretty Little Baby,” released in 1962, was named TikTok’s “Global Song of the Year.” The track appeared in more than 28.4 million videos and generated over 68.6 billion views, according to the platform.
Connection Between TikTok and Chart Performance
TikTok reports that eight of the 10 Billboard number-one singles in 2025 had their first viral moment on the platform. The company also stated that all 13 UK number-one singles on the Official Charts in 2025 had a viral moment on TikTok.
The platform’s “Add to Music App” feature, which allows users to save tracks to streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, has been used to save more than three billion songs, according to TikTok’s announcement.
“TikTok has become the industry’s most powerful engine for music discovery, the place where beloved classics find a second life and new voices break through,” said Tracy Gardner, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok.
