Google.org, YouTube Commit $20M to Teen Digital Wellbeing With Open-Source Curriculum
Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, and YouTube announced a $20 million global initiative at YouTube’s “Growing Up in the Digital Age Summit” in Dublin on March 11 to address teen digital wellbeing. The partnership will fund a multilingual, open-source resource center and curriculum designed for teens, parents, caregivers, and educators.

YouTube creators will deliver curriculum content in formats aimed at teen audiences. A network of nonprofits (Young Futures (U.S.), Plan International (APAC), and the Centre for Public Impact (Europe)) will provide localized, in-person training tailored to regional communities. The Centre for Public Impact will lead development of the resource center and curriculum.
Topics covered will include preventing digital stress, seeking help, and interacting with AI in healthy ways.

The initiative draws on a February 2026 Ipsos survey of over 9,500 teens aged 13-17 across 36 markets. Among respondents aged 13-15, 82% identified digital tool competence as an important wellbeing topic, and 72% said they or their parents had used AI for digital wellbeing advice and recommendations.
“Teens’ relationship with technology is drawing increasing attention, as we all grapple with how best to support them in navigating a complex digital world,” said Nick Thompson, CEO of the Centre for Public Impact. “Meeting young people where they are is critical.”
Katya Hancock, CEO of Young Futures, added that the initiative centers teen input in its design. “Resources built with teens, not just for them, are the ones that actually get used.”
Plan International will implement the initiative across 11 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member states in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation. “This effort represents an important step toward building stronger, forward-looking safeguards for digital wellbeing in Southeast Asia,” said Dini Widiastuti, Executive Director of Plan International Indonesia.
