Ron Perlman Unveils Fan-Funded Creator Media Platform
Actor Ron Perlman, alongside entertainment and technology executives, announced the launch of Watrfall, a new media development platform that enables direct fan investment in film and television projects. The platform opens to the public on August 22.
Watrfall positions itself as a “creator-led, fan-focused platform” designed to transform traditional funding and development processes in entertainment. The company’s model allows fans to invest in projects, giving creators financial backing while maintaining creative control.
According to company statements, initial investors will receive 100% of net profits from the platform’s first slate of productions and 5% of platform profits thereafter.
The business plans to generate additional revenue through tiered memberships, creator tools, and platform fees. Watrfall’s technology infrastructure is powered by Republic’s film investment vertical and Walrus, a decentralized data management platform.
Leadership and Vision
Perlman co-founded Watrfall with Oscar-winning producer Michael Donovan (“Bowling for Columbine”), former DHX Media CEO Dana Landry, and tech entrepreneur Willie Morris.
“We built Watrfall to realign the entertainment value chain, where creators are in control, where the people who make content actually benefit from its success, and where film and television lovers everywhere can have a real seat at the table,” Perlman stated in the company’s announcement.
The platform will allow creators to submit scripts and projects for consideration. Once submitted, these projects enter a voting process where platform investors determine which productions advance to development. Watrfall emphasizes that creators “retain creative control over their content” throughout the process.
