YouTube Reports Record Growth In MENA Creator Earnings On 20th Anniversary

YouTube has reported significant growth among high-earning creators across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) as the platform celebrates its 20th anniversary. As of December 2024, channels earning seven figures annually in Saudi Arabia increased 40% year-over-year, while Egypt saw a 60% increase in seven-figure earners in EGP, and the UAE experienced 15% growth in AED.

These metrics emerge as YouTube solidifies its position as a global media powerhouse. Research from Wall Street firm MoffettNathanson indicates YouTube is poised to surpass Disney as the largest media company by revenue by the end of 2025, with 2024 revenue reaching $54.2 billion.

Global Appeal Drives Growth

YouTube data reveals strong international viewership for MENA-based content, with over 95% of watch time for UAE channel content coming from outside the country. Similarly, more than 60% of watch time for Egyptian content originates from viewers beyond Egypt’s borders.

“As YouTube turns 20, we celebrate the phenomenal work of creators across MENA and their role in driving the region’s popular culture,” Javid Aslanov, Head of YouTube in MENA, said in a press release. “These creative entrepreneurs skillfully leveraged YouTube’s diverse formats to share their voices and also build thriving businesses that reach global audiences.”

Platform Expansion and Market Position

YouTube’s influence continues to grow on multiple fronts. The platform has paid $70 billion to creators, artists, and media companies globally over the past three years. If operating as a standalone business, MoffettNathanson estimates YouTube’s worth between $475-550 billion, representing approximately 30% of parent company Alphabet’s current valuation.

The platform reached 20 million people over 18 in Saudi Arabia and 7.5 million in the UAE in May 2024. Connected TV viewership shows particular strength, with YouTube reaching over 12 million people in Saudi Arabia, 2.5 million in the UAE, and 600,000 in Qatar (age 18+) via this medium.

YouTube’s subscription services now count more than 125 million subscribers across YouTube TV, YouTube Premium, and YouTube Music Premium, up from 100 million a year ago, contributing to the platform’s diversified revenue streams beyond advertising.
