TikTok To Lay Off Hundreds Of Employees, Scrapping Entire Global User Operations Team

TikTok is set to lay off a significant number of employees across various departments, including operations, content, and marketing. The layoffs, first reported by The Information, will impact employees globally, and those affected will be notified on Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

According to unnamed sources within the company that spoke with The Information, TikTok plans to dismantle its global user operations team entirely. Those team members who are not laid off will be reassigned to other departments. The precise number of employees facing termination remains undisclosed.

This move comes after TikTok had already laid off dozens of employees earlier in the year. However, large-scale layoffs have been relatively uncommon for the company compared to other tech giants. As of 2023, TikTok employed approximately 7,000 individuals in the United States alone, with the app boasting 150 million users nationwide.

TikTok reported $16 billion in U.S. revenue for 2023 despite the layoffs, according to a Financial Times report on March 15.
